Leadership is a person or group’s ability to guide others.

Businesses have managers, the military has commissioned officers and non-commissioned officers, families have parents, so on and so forth.

Leadership is an important dynamic in any group so that it has one general direction.

If people in the group aren’t in one accord with that direction, then a separate group must be formed if first group will have any success with their goal. 

Different leadership styles

Autocratic leadership style is a style where one person has complete power to make decisions. 

This is one is FYI and NOT advisable outside of a dictatorship. 

Democratic leadership style

Leaders of this style encourage team members to participate in decision-making.

Laissez-faire leadership style

This is the leadership style that involves minimal guidance from the leader. Leaders of this style trust the team to make decisions that move the team toward the goal.     

Leadership qualities

Some qualities that great leaders must have is integrity, doing what is right even when no one is looking. They have exceptional communication skills. They can make sound decisions quickly when needed and are the people to go to when you need a problem solved. The best leaders inspire others to be great.

Developing a leader

To develop a great leader, not only should they communicate effectively and be a good listener, but they should ask for feedback and continuously learn.  

Lead from the rear

Remember being a good leader tomorrow requires you to be a good follower today. Ask nothing of your team that you would not and have not done yourself.
